What tming set to use??
With all the reading i've been doing on this topic it's beginning to drive me nuts!
My car is getting torn apart next month to get my combo done and this is the last piece of the puzzle. I had just ordered the Comp 3158KT double roller then cancelled it due to everything i read about clearance issues with the double roller chains...then i've seen some findings with no issues! I am doing the Melling hi-volume oil pump as well and actually just read that the SLP pump has provisions for the double roller chains built in. Anyone know if the Melling's do also? It would sure solve this issue!
Back to the chains....I started looking into the Katech C5-R chain and i just wanted to confirm that for $150 i'm just getting the chain itself? The stock sprockets are reused? If this is the case i'd prefer to get a complete kit with new gears and have been looking at the Cloyes 9-3158A single roller set. Just looking for a little more input and if anyone has or is running this Cloyes model or the 9-3159A double roller for that matter. I'm pretty familiar with the LS stuff but this whole timing chain scene is really throwing me for a loop!
Thanks!

I'm in the same situation regarding timing chain selection. Check out the Cloyes website, they make an extreme duty single roller chain for the LS engines, part # 9-3658TX3Z. I'm probably going with this one myself.

Good thread to check out: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...n-failure.html
I am going with the Kaytech chain and yes you re-use your stock gears. I am also going with the Mehling oil pump.
I have not found 1 break in all my searching on the Kaytech chain so that is good enough for me + no clearance issues to deal with.
