I ordered a set of base casting l92s and from looking at all the pics of the ported/cnc l92s there is alot of casting flash and little imperfections from the factory. Would it hurt anything if i polished out the exhaust ports? I know the intake cant be mirror polished or anything cuz of the fuel building up on smooth walls hurting performance, but would it hurt anything if I got rid of the casting flash/buildup in the intake runners? Has there been anyone with the juevos to go as far as port thier own heads , if so please advise.

A while back, I pulled the head off my 1996 Corvette LT4 with the intention of porting them. After removing the valves, I concluded I really had no clue what I was doing so I sent them to a professional to clean them up and get them pocket ported. Its also a good idea to remove the valves while they are getting ported because all the metal fillings and get the valves ground and lapped to make sure they seal. I got them flowed to see how much of an improvement it made. I picked up 22 rwhp as a result. It cost about $500.

If you really dont know what youre doing sending them out is the way to go. It is important that they are done right or they wont perform.

I would recommend to either leave them how they are or have someone with experience and a flow bench do the porting.

You may think its OK just to do a touch up and remove the flashing, but you need to remove the valves. If you do that, you are bound to nick a valve seat when you do, so it will need them re-ground. A 5 angle valve job can pick up quite a bit of flow at low valve lift.

In my opinion, either don't touch them or send them to a well established professional to get them done right and flow tested.
