Default Z06 Muffler Mod Question

When doing the muffler mod on Z06 mufflers can a mig welder be used to weld the outside jacket back together. I've seen some say to use a tig welder, I have a mig but no tig. Thanks.

A MIG welder is the easiest and will work fine. You will be welding zinc coated (don't breathe the fumes) mild steel, not aluminum.

Cut a hole in the inside wall closest to the tips or it will bust out/ crack on you and make a humming tinny vibration that will drive you nuts.

With the valve closed exhaust goes into 2 small holes and enters a closed chamber. The exhaust cant go anywhere so it busts the wall. Look inside the tip with the valve and you will see the small holes.

I just cut out a 1.5 inch hole in the wall and then the exhaust goes into the muffler can. If you dont do this you will more than likely be back in them later.

Even some stock untouched cars with NPP or BiMode are having this problem. Wire feed welder is fine, ugly but you wont see the weld.

Good luck, Steve
