Default Another Throttle Response Question

I just bought an 05 M6 with 27k miles and the the throttle response is HORRIBLE.

I've owned and driven other C6s and they have all been very responsive. All you needed to do was tap the peddle.

But with this car, if I'm in 1st gear (or even in neutral), I need to push the peddle 1/3 to 1/2 way down before I get a decent response from the engine.

I've read through the threads and the most common fix seems to be a ported throttle body, tuning, or both.

Could the solution be something else? Maybe the peddle? How about a good ol' throttle body servicing/cleaning?

Thanks for any input.

There was a recent thread about cleaning the mass airflow sensor ,you may want to try that.

Have you checked your air filter yet?

Check to see if it has a hogged out ported throttle body. A good TB porting can enhance throttle response but a hogged out one can ruin it and require codes to be turned off in the tune.

The next place to check is the tune itself.

EdinPA The air filters look pretty good but I could change them. I read the thread about the MAF sensor, think this is it:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...ean-a-maf.html

Thing is, Im not sure where the sensor is I think its the plug/connector that goes into the air intake?

SpinMonster From what I understand, that car has never been tuned and is bone stock. Anyway to check if its been tuned?

Before I did anything, I would run a bottle of Chevron Techron and/or Seafoam through it.

I bought the Techron AND the Seafoam. Looks like I can pour either in the gas tank.

Also, in the pic below, is the sensor the connector that the red arrow is pointing to or is it the entire black plastic thing that the blue arrow points to?

Yes that is the MAS both blue and red. Remove the two hose claps on both sides and pull it out. Get a cleaner made for the MAS and clean the throttle body with some TB cleaner while you have it apart. Be very careful with the MAS and do not touch the wires or you will be buying a new one.

Glad you told me about the wires (the red arrow), I was going to try and unplug it from the plastic piece.

Is the throttle body the plastic part that goes towards the front of the car, or the black rubbery hose part that goes towards the driver? Pathetic, I know.

Just spray some TB cleaner in there?

Ya remove the rubber connector and follow the instructins on the TB spray. Oh and not Pathetic, we all have to start learning someplace and this is the best forum to ask questions.

Yep your doing good. Now pull the connector to MAS off and tuck that out of the way. You will have to remove the white clip out first and them pull the rest of the connector out. You will see what I mean when you start playing with it. Then remove the rest of the clamps and pull the MAS out and then the other rubber piece off the TB and your good to go. Clean and put it back together.

Ok I got the bugger out. Should I remove the rubber hose as well?

On the sensor, I am going to use the sensor spray on the horizontal bars, correct? Should I spray anything on the netting part?

Ya just spray the whole thing on the inside from the open end, do not touch the wires. Remove anything caught in the honeycomb if any. Now remove the other connector to the TB so you can see how dirty it is and follow the TB cleaner instructions. Make sure to put rags under the TB for soak up any extra cleaner. There ya go your done. I don't know if you will notice a huge difference in responce but it does not hurt to do this every once in a while. When I did mine, I did notice a better idle and a bit more responce. Hope it takes care of your problem. See now that was not that hard now was it Enjoy

Edit: Push open the butterfly valve inside the TB and clean around the seal (where the valve rests when its closed) This should help with the idle. And make sure the the Flow arrow on the sensor is pointing towards the TB when you put the MAS back on.

Ah oh. I need to go get some TB cleaner. When I remove the rubber accordion hose, do I need to remove the wire/plug that connects into the hose?

It would make it easier. Its a pretty stiff hose. I dont remember exactly how it comes off but I remember it was easy to pop off. It will just pull right out if you can't get it to come apart.

7795TAs thanks so much for your help, it was like a step by step tutorial.

Unfortunately, the throttle response isnt musch better

I changed the air filters as well and poured in some Techron. Lets see if the gas makes any difference.
