I have a coupe with Z51 brakes. At about 10K miles I installed Hawk ceramic pads to cut down on dust. Now, at 17K miles I am seeing very noticeable lipping on the rotors, as well as what appears to be the start of some cracking.
I have been told that the ceramics create more heat than the stock pads which is the major contributing factor to my problems. The car is not tracked, but does go on quite a few "spirited" runs.
Are there performance rotors on the market that would allow me to use the factory calipers and keep the ceramic pads? I had the calipers painted to match the car, and Mike the Powdercoater did a great job.
Also, I see that a lot of the aftermarket kits don't fit inside of the stock wheels, and I don't want to replace them.
Just looking for some guidance. Any and all would be appreciated.
I think I paid about $1,200 for the Z51 size 5000 two piece fronts and the 4000 one piece rears. You can shop around and get better prices. I'm running ceramic pads and have no issues.
If you're going to drop some good coin on nice rotors, it might be a good idea to get some new pads as well. The Carbotech 1521 seams to be the best ceramic but the ACDelco is the cheapest (from Gene).
