Default Seat Belt issue.

I bought C6 seatbelts to go in my kit car. They came in and I cant get them to budge. I know they have to be oriented a certain way but not sure. L and R sides are both locked up. Any suggestions?

Try turning the thingee (not sure what the proper name is) the seat belts are in upside down. Sometimes this will release the locking mechanism.

Well I bought the belts from Clevenland Pick a Part. Reputable company on Ebay. Ask if I could return the belts-note that I paid 60 bucks for. Not a large sum of money but to the little guy it is. They tell that the belts were listed from a car with deployed airbags. To me this means nothing, but only serves as a definition of why they are selling the belts. Again reputable company, so why would you sell something that DOESNT WORK. The guy tells me they sell them for "mock up" purposes. Once the bags deploy they dont work. haha..wow..how about you actually write that in the description. Oh well..guess im out 60 bucks.

If they cant make right 60 bucks, hell even 40 bucks which is what the actual cost was + 20 bucks shipping, I would hate to buy anything substantial from them.

I doubt that anything is wrong with your seat belts. Things can always be messed up, but they're in general pretty bullet proof. The stuff you're getting from the vendor is pure CYA liability crap - it's a "safety" system, and anytime that's in play there are potentially lawyers involved.

After a review of the Service Manual, it looks like the retractor mechanism MUST be oriented a certain way, and the belt MUST come vertically up out of the mechanism or it will lock. Here's one picture of it:

For some more info on part#s and names of parts see:

http://www.compnine.com/index.php?u=...14&grouptype=B

You can see how the retractor is oriented in the picture, but it's very misleading about how the other parts fit into the picture. The retractor actually mounts below that part identified as item# 13, and the belt comes vertically out of the top of the retractor and over that #13 bracket.

The Service Manual says that when checking the retractor for proper operation, that the belt should come out if the retractor is mounted as shown or a max of 15 degrees from that attitude, and the belt is pulled straight up out of the retractor. The belt should not pull out if the retractor is tilted 45 degrees or more from the mounting orientation shown.

Good luck with it!!

Bob

Yes, exactly what BEZ06 said, the belts have no idea that the airbags deployed, that's just mandatory BS on their part. They are very finicky to position. When you get it right they will come out with ease.

Well I took the belts completely apart tonight. NOTE*** only remove the cover of the side with the metal ball bearing!!! The other side contains a very tight spring which will pop out and hit you in the face, causing pain and about 30 plus minutes of your time rewinding the coil spring..not that I speak from experience Anywho. There are 3 little gears that have to be oriented just the right way. Not sure exactly which way they go but I got them close.

As I was sitting around thinking about what excuse they used, I thought "how many times do the seat belts ever get replaced after a collision?" umm never! Like VETTE PHASE said, the belts have no idea the bags deployed. The problem actually came when they removed the belts from the car. They allowed the belts to roll too far inside the spool, which locked the gear. Only way to reset it was disassemble.

Thanks to those who chimed in!! Regardless of the fact that I fixed the problem, it still sucks that they were unwilling to work with me and offered no help.
