Default Differental Question

I just replaced my differental fluid because my diff has been making a lot of noise, it got quieter for some of the sharp turns but it is still there so i added a bottle of the severe gear addittive, and suprise it is still making the noise. so i have been searching through all the post and have read that many people had to change it a second time. My question is would it be ok if i added two bottles of the severs gear addittive on my next fluid change or would that be a bad idea? i just dont have the money to replace the clucth packs right now. If you guys have any other ideas please let me know.

P.S. If anyone knows of someone in the Socal area (San Diego) that could maybe replace the clutch packs for cheap let me know

Thanks

You did use oil with the slip additive correct? Not sure about this severe gear additive. Also car must be figured 8 a dozen times to work the fluid. Sounds like your thinking that you have a bad diff? Not sure but these cars do have noisy Diff. if incorrect fluid is used.

ya i used the Dextron? fluid from Chevy, and it still was making the noise after about 20 minutes of doing figure eights. i think i may try the Amsoil fluid next with there addittive.

Which Dexron? The newest, latest rear gear lube from GM doesn't use any additive and is what the Dealers are using for replacement now. If you bought over the counter they may have sold you the old style fluid.

The figure eights in a big parking lot after the fluid change is important.
I wouldn't use two bottles of the additive/friction modifier as it might allow too much slip and you might end up with a quiet yet not quite properly working rear.
The Amsoil stuff is very good too if you need to change it again but you might not need to even do anything further other then go to a large parking lot and drive in circles for two minutes LOL.

If that doesn't work, I would drive the car another hundred miles or so and then plan on another fluid change. Sometimes these cars just need two successive fluid changes to fix the chatter problem. I would use AMSOIL Severe Gear with one separate bottle of their slip lock additive with the next fluid change. I feel that will definitely get it done for you.

It was a waste of time if the dealer didn't give you the "LS" Dexron. The DEXRON LS is $22+ per qt.
