I just had new tires put on and the tire guy stated my rotors front and rear were cupped. I only have 30k on my 07 and since its a Vert I assume it has not been tracked by the previous owner.
I felt the rotors and the outer edge is thicker and you actually feel a sharp difference from edge to main body on both the inside and outside area. The pads all look good with plenty of meat left.
How can you tell if their is enough rotor to have them turned or if they are under the minimal thickness?
Are your brakes pulsating when you come to a stop. Probably not or you would have mentioned it. He was either talking about tires or thought he could make another sale. Do they do brakes at this shop also? Even id your rotors were warped ( which rarely happens ) you can replace them and your pads yourself in a couple hours. There was a great thread posted just recently about " the warped rotor myth ". Good read
My tire dealer is a friend and a corvette owner. He does not do brakes and was not trying to make a sale.
He may have used the wrong wording for the description of what my rotors look like but it was not mentioned in order to make a sale.
I posted the thread in order to determine if the eating away of rotor leaving a pronounced sharp edge on the inner and outer surface is normal and at what thickness it can still be turned.

It's normal. On a Z51, the minimum thickness of the fronts is 30mm and the rears is 24mm. These specs are stamped on the O.D. of the rotors.
