Continental ExtremeContact DW
I am also considering PS2s and the BFG KDWs. I know the PS2s are the best choice for the car but I haven't had a ton of time for track days and I also am balking at the price. Not that I can't afford about $1500 for a set of PS2s but I hesitate to spend that much if there are other tires that deliver similar performance for more than $500 less.
Also, if you can't tell from my listed options, I am less than concerned with having a runflat tire. I'll put my faith in modern tire technology and carry one of those emergency sealants and pump for insurance.
Thanks in advance.
I took a look at the DW and I knew the 340 treadwear rating would not provide the max grip promised.
I put on a set of Bridgestone RE-11 over a week ago to replace my worn PS2's. Seems like the steering is sharper with the RE-11, but the tires feel a bit heavier than the PS2.
So far the grip on the RE-11 feels good, but will have to test it on a mountain road next month.
What I can tell you is that the PS2's were great tires when new, great grip, great comfort, even has great longevity!
But nearing the wear bars, PS2' lost the forward traction that had me frustrated until I finally replaced them with the RE-11.
If you are an aggressive driver, the 180 wear rating on the RE-11 may be too short for you?
Mine is a daily driver so I get long mileage on my tires regardless.
(30,000+ miles on the original Supercar F1 EMT, 30,000+ miles on another set of Supercar F1 EMT, over 40,000+ miles on the Michelin PS2's.)
I am expecting to get at least 25,000 miles on this RE-11 but not sure, since I never had tires with treadwear rating less than the 220 of the PS2 and Supercar F1's. The PS2 lasted 33% longer than Supercar F1 EMT even though they have the same 220 rating, so hopefully the RE-11 with 180 rating can give me 30,000 miles...
From the current offerings, I would choose between PS2 and RE-11.
At this point all I can tell you is the RE-11 "looks" much better than the PS2.

PS2 is more rounded from sidewall to tread, so the tires look smaller/weaker in the wheelwell.
The RE-11 has a straight vertical sidewall up to the tread, so the tires look better fitted in the wheelwell, like the OEM Supercar F1's were.
I did give the RE-11s a look but I have a slight hesitation because the last set of Bridgestone tires I owned proved to be overpriced and under performing. I will do some more looking at them and maybe give Bridgestone a second chance.
Thanks for the information. Maybe I'm back towards leaning to the PS2s. As long as I could get about 20-25k miles out of them it would be worth the price.
