Default Question about disassembling calipers????

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to paint my calipers on my 05 Z51 and just had a quick question.

I want to remove the pistons, dust boots and O-rings so that I can really get to the hard to reach places.

My question is...
Can the dust boots and O-rings be removed without having to replace them? Or are they a one time deal that need to be replaced once taken apart?

I'm planning on removing the pistons with compressed air BTW.

Thanks

You can take them out and reuse them if you keep everything clean. Same as if you were replacing them. If you decide to replace them the kit only costs about $20. When you remove the pistons just make sure you do not smash your fingers. Put a piece of wood in the caliper so the pistons can come out but not all the way out and then apply compressed air to the bleeder hole. Do not get your fingers between the wood and the pistons or the side of the caliper.

A little bit of compressed air inside of a brake caliper goes along way!

Thanks Bill.

I didn't want to buy the build kit. I called the dealer and they said they're $28 per corner. I'm going to be replacing my brake system down the line anyway so I rather put the money towards that. I just want a new look for my car.
