Default rookie cam info.

I am a rookie guys no need to make fun of me. Ive been looking on some modifications to go for my c6 because I cant feel the power anymore, maybe from my heavy firestones?
Anyways I have a couple of questions about camshafts.
Does it do damage to the engine?
Which camshaft should I get if I dont want a large difference in my idle characteristics?
Do I need other mods to go with the cam like pulleys. I asked this question because whenever I see a guy with a cam he always mentions his pulley.
Is it worth it?

keep the wave guys.

A cam wont do damage to your motor when properly installed. You will need springs and rods but other than that you will be fine. You dont need to change pulleys the only reason to change them is to gain every bit of hp from a motor. If you dont want to have a large difference in your idle but want to gain some hp you are gonna want a smaller stealth cam say 224-228 range with a higher lsa 114-117 depending on exactly what you want. Many performance shops have a small stealth grind and if you call some of them up they will give you some specs based on your desires.

... You can't "hurt" the car if it is installed and tuned properly. Any cam with a higher lift and lower duratin will give you a smooth stock like idle you're looking for. LG motorsports here in Dallas sells what they call the "executive" cam that is very stealthy...You can barely even tell the car is cammed and it makes good power.

Whatever you do do not go cheap with you valve train parts because you want a smooth idleing cam you're going to have a lot of lift so for sure get new springs and pushrods and go ahead and get a new timing chain while you're in there...

Default Do you necessarily need A camshaft ?

There are other ways of making some nice power besides taking your Car apart to put A CAM in. You can purchase a VARARAM and A FAST manifold
with a tune and get as much power as A small CAM. From what I understand about 35 HP would be something you would feel , enjoy and get some better gas mileage.

Start with the basics first like an intake, full exhaust, and tune before you go with a cam. If you already have the basics then a cam will be the next step. Something in the 220s on a wider lsa as mentioned above will give you an extra boost in performance and drive like the stock cam.
