Cammed LS3: Z06 or NPP ??
http://s811.photobucket.com/albums/z...08Vette020.flv
Hoping to port my intake manifold and maybe even put on a UDP and break into the 10s.
May be switching the cam out to the reverse split from spin just to see how it does... =P

Thats why I asked about the sound aspect as well as the power. I do like deeper sound though.
Do they sound about the same when closed or is one quiter? Im probably gona put the bullets that are on my shelf just for fun but I need a more livable option.
I do have an X-pipe in already but cant that be moded to spread or eliminate that short piece of 2.5 pipe?
NPPs are usualy more money but I have a friend with a set of NPPs for 700 and another with z06 duals for 500 so price doesnt kill it. Since I found them for a good price Im entertaining it.
I may go with the Zs because the Npps are to similar to corsas. Unless I find a clip that makes me like them more.
Anyone in Miami with either of these set ups?
Now I am running them with the TSP 1 7/8 coated headers with no cats and Spin's cam.
What I realy dont like is how it sounds on deceleration or between shifts. Its very thin and loud pops kinda like a rattle.
I let my girl drive and followed in her car.
It sounds WACK!

Does anyone get this sound too?
Can It be tuned out?
Will adding cats help?
Your input is greatly appreciated

I have been going through similar problems myself. Let me first say that I have always been very picky about how my cars sound. I've been known to change mufflers multiple times before I'm happy. I have an LS3 car that had LG headers, high-flow cats, 3" X-pipe, cam and Corsa Sports. The car sounded good when stock, but with all the mods it became too poppy and raspy for my taste.
I, too have been on a quest for the best bi-mode exhaust. I literally spend hours on youtube listening to sound clips. On a modified car (cam), the sound is a lot different and you really need to find similar cars to listen to.
FWIW, I never thought any of the Z06 muffler equipped cars sounded all that good. The NPPs sounded better, but some with cams seemed to sound funky at idle. I actually ordered a set of NPPs, thinking it would be nice to close the flaps and have it be like stock. I ended up cancelling the order when I realized I was not after a quieter car, but one that had a better "tone". I probably would have left the NPPs in the "open" position all the time, and only closed then if a cop was sitting behind me at a traffic light. But hey, I'm a younger guy and like to hear my exhaust.
Anyway, that led me to the B&B Fusion exhaust. I just spend yesterday installing them at my shop. So far, I am very happy with the sound. I am about to head out and hook up the mild to wild/vacuum control system. I've been driving it around so far with the valves hooked up to straight manifold vacuum, so they only open at more than 50% throttle.
My impressions so far: With the flaps closed it is a little quieter than the Corsa Sports, but it is has a great, deep, muscle car tone. Gone is the rasp and poppiness that I disliked. There might be just a "hint" of drone, but it is hard to tell. That is the one thing the Corsas did well. When I roll into the throttle, I can definitely hear when the flaps are opening. The tone remains very similar, the volume just goes up.
Like I said, I am very happy so far and will report back after I have the real vacuum control system installed. Though at this point, I would not hesitate to recommend this system to anyone. Corvettes of Houston has a great price on these. I was going to spend just as much on a set of new NPPs (through Parts Taxi group buy) and a mild2wild system.
I'll try to get a video up soon. Good luck on making your car sound right,
Andy

I am running with no cats and no rattle at all.
shoot me a PM, i can help you post a vid here.
I spoke to someone who said that it can be tunned out. Getting tunned tomorrow. Anyone know where i can get the muffler mod done in Miami. Some place that does it regularly. Can it be done while on the car?
Thanks to all you guys!!
Jerry,
Once I get all my stuff sorted out, I'll take you up on that BBQ cruise! Thank you!

San
First video is from dyno tuning at Ragin Racin after the supercharger and cam install.
Second video is just some data logging from 2000rpm(instead of the normal 3k) at a local dyno day. It's also the same day I dyno'd hp changes with the exhaust valves open and closed. (that extra 20hp under 3500rpm I mentioned in my last post.)
The sound is there. But what you guys aren't getting is the sheer volume.
The 2nd video, one can sort of tell by the static on the run-up. That's my camera trying to compensate for the sheer volume then giving up and bottling as much as it could. I also doesn't show all the people behind the camera holding their ears and stepping back or the little kids in the audience starting to cry.

I must say that I build concert lighting and sound systems. I'm used to extreme sound pressure levels and high decibels. The top of the rpm band even made me cringe a bit, it was that loud.
I can grab an idle video if anyone wants to hear it....

. Thats more than I payed for the mufflers!
