Nope, not at all although you will need to remove the steering rack in order to gain access to the crank pulley.
Ah Ha! I thought that I had heard that before. I stopped by a Dealer today and asked for a price to change out the CAM. The response was $2,500. They said that the engine would have to be pulled and the heads removed. I personally talked with the "best Corvette mechanic" and He asked me if it was a roller CAM! Then He mentioned the engine pull and other stuff like rocker arms. I told him NO THANKS".

Thanks again for the reply.
Unless their labor rate is $300/hr that's way too high as I can do one in my garage in about 6-8 hours.
I've also got a how to guide if you're interested in seeing everything that's involved.
we charge $850 for a cam swap.... usually we just lower the front cradle on the lift in order to get the rack far enough out of the way to remove the crank pulley.... lol you dont have to remove the heads, or even the intake
im just wrapping up my blower cam swap.. i was thinking of dropping the cradle. but then it would of limited my room under the car since im on floor jacks. also i didn't want to forget a sensor or brake line and jack it all up.
I was talking to one of the mechanics from Doug Rippie at Road America yesterday and he told me that you can change the cam just like RYNEZ06 says without pulling the intake in about 8 hours. The rack is in the way, but other than that it isn't a big deal.

I dont recall speaking with you.
No engine pull is required and the heads dont come off for a cam swap.
The rack is a pain but is still faster than an engine removeal. To clearance in front to slide out the cam, you have to remove the radiator, shroud, and move the ac condenser. I would say 20 hours your first time going slow. Dont reuse the stock timing chain.

I have no intention of doing it myself! Ther quote I got was from a local Chevy Dealer, $2,500. They sent me a job estimate CAM $179.73, labor 6 Speed Warranty 17.6 Hrs, Other 23.8 Hrs. Apparantly it takes longer if not under Warranty?
I am trying to sell the car because the CAM is too rough for me and my wife does not want to drive the car. I am looking to trade for a Automatic. There has got to be someone out there that wants a Pristine 3LT car with 492.9 HP at the rear wheels and only 5,900 miles on it!!!
have you thought about having a shop go over the tune and smooth out any problems your having with the drive ability?
-Carl
Yes, I have done that. The car originally had a EFI Live tune. I was worried that if for some reason I lost the tune, it would be a pain getting it redone.
I bought a Diablo Predator and took it and the car to a Diablo recommended shop near Nashville. They put it on the Dyno and tweaked it for almost 4 hours. Bottom line, the CAM is too stout. The tuner told me that it would idle smoother at WOT but would not pass emissions. I left with the car running about the same but I now had a copy of the tune on my Predator.
you need to come down to huntsville, and get GOMER (scott) to tune it. he is known in the south and does a great job. he has tuned all my LSX cars and my current vette.
i am running a 236/238 .601/.605 @ 113 cam and it driver perfect even in traffic.
the tunning capabilities in HP tuners, VS. a preditor are nothing to com pair.
a preditor you can change idelspeeds, air fuel, and some others but its all in pre set tabels.
with HP tuners, the tuner can change each rpm mark in mutiple tabes, (VE, air fuel, idel).
make a big difference.
EDIT, hell take it to vengence and have RON take al ook at it. you are not that far!
