I did the muffler mod and drilled 1" holes throught the stock exhaust. It gave the car a little more rumble at idle and a lot louder at WOT but at normal hiway speeds it sounds like stock no drone.

where did you see that done before any pics where you drilled the holes ?
I have the borla stinger kit with LG's Pro Long tubes and love it. I love how raspy it is at about 2000 rpm. It's not too loud for me at all.
It's not too loud inside the car when you're cruising. You can have a conversation on a cell phone without any issues. However...when the foot is down...It's a noise maker.
I have an 2005 with auto and i was looking for something just a little louder thah stock and looking for no drone if possible.
Thanks
I've got Borla Stingers.
There is a little drone around 1600-1700 RPM, typically in 5th & 6th gears.
Since I have a manual, I just "shift around" the drone.
Since you have an automatic, you will definitely get some drone - probably in the lower gears as well.
I'd recommend a Corsa exhaust if you want no drone whatsoever.
You should definitely attend a local Vette gathering & ask for a ride in some of the cars with the exhausts your interested in.
Don't make a $1,000 (or more) mistake.

I had BORLA STINGERS on as one of my very first mods. It gave the Car
the sound that it needed to reflect that of a muscle Car Sports Car. Near
stock the drone was barely noticible. The addition of a VR and LG long
tube headers made the stingers sound louder and each successive mod
after FAST, CAM & high compression HEADS the car sounds totally wicked
and the drone at 1600 RPM is more pronounced at cruising speeds. One think to keep in mind is that I pass thru 1600 rpm rather quickly so driving around town is of no consequence for drone and has a little burble while
decelerating. All and all i can control how the car sounds and most everybody loves it. Thats my experience.
I have noticed many members removed Borla Stingers , Corsa and other types of catbacks especially when modding towards 450 RWHP and to them the sound was getting too loud. They removed them and replaced them with npp " Mild to wild" so to speak and that gave them quiet driving and loudness at the flick of a switch. I do like the sound of them
but not like my borla stingers.

Don't worry, I drove my friend's 05 auto convertible with Borla Stingers a couple weeks ago. There's slight drone at 1500 rpm but it seems like with the A4 you are at around 2,000 rpm on the freeway, so there was no drone while cruising. My 09 A6 on the other hand is right at 1500 rpm while going 70 mph, but i'm still going to get the Stingers soon.

Do you have a coupe?
Coupes tend to display a bit more road noise (and drone from an exhaust) than a vert. I have American Racing Headers with the borla stingers axle back, and I dont get any annoying drone. I will hear the exhaust if I stay at a certain RPM on the highway but its not something that gets on my nerves really. I guess it is up to each individual on what they can tolerate, as drone.
My suggestion is to see if you can hear and possibly ride in some cars with the set-up you are considering and see what it sounds like at speeds. I do hear that corsas make the least amount of drone, but I like the sounds of the borlas alot better in my opinion.
Ok, here you go. I too have an auto and I've spent the last year researching exhausts. Everything from the big companies down to the little guys just getting started. I don't think there's a YouTube video I haven't listened to at least 5x's. I've gone to club meets to listen to them in person. I thought borla was going to be the clear winner......until I heard the Billy Boat w/PRT. I never heard it in person but I took a gamble and could not be happier. Nice deep rumble when you start the car, a deep rumble at idle. Hit the throttle and people will definitely know you're not stock but level out to a cruise and it's barely louder than stock. No drone at all! I'm very surprised more people with 6at don't jump on this system. If you're local, I let you check it out in person.
**did I mention the high polished tips and mufflers?
