drivetrain fluids change
I changed the manual trans fluid with the GM stuff. Strange tho, when I pulled the fill plug first at least 1/2 a quart dumped out of there. I had the car dead level too. So somehow it was overfilled either at the factory or by somebody. Car was a 3 year lease and has just over 40K miles on it. So I tend to doubt it was ever changed. The manual lists the capacity of the Z51 at 4.2 quarts, but I put in about 3.5-3.75 which is the capacity listed for the non Z51. So I am guessing the rest is in the cooler lines and doesn't get changed with a simple drain and refill. Oh well - I plan to do it probably every 20K miles or so since the car will get some track time and I think that is good preventative maint on a car that is pushed hard and heating up the fluids in that way.
Diff fluid was at the correct level at least. I replaced that with Amsoil 75W90 synthetic with a bottle of the GM additive thrown in for good measure.
I flushed the brake system with help from my daughter (both of my daughters know how to do the manual bleed method quite well - at least the part working the brake pedal which they have been doing from a very young age!!). The fluid in the master cyld was nasty brown. The fluid in the lines looked decent, but I flushed it all anyway. Changed that to ATE Superblue which has become my go-to brake fluid for street driven cars that see any hard driving.
It was also nice to see the car has rear brake ducts. Is that a Z51 thing, or all C6's get them?
I also ordered a cabin air filter and will replace that on Monday when it comes in.
The oil life monitor said 97% when I got the car, so I am assuming the dealer changed that before selling the car. I bought it from a reputable Chevy dealer that specializes in Corvettes. I will change it really early tho just in case. For sure will change it before the car goes out on the track.
I was planning to do a drain and refill maybe 2-3 times on the coolant at 50K miles. Probably overkill to do anything earlier. And will likely swap the PS fluid for redline before any track work too, but not worried about it prior to that - level looked fine and it's only 3 years old.
Nice to see the car was clean and unmolested underneath. I expected as much because it was just about as close to perfect as could be expected inside and out and I know this dealer would not be selling anything but a quality car on their lot.
