Having some weird computer issues with the 05 and wanted to talk to you guys before forking over cash to the dealer on an out-of-warranty vette...
Every once in a while, but with increasing frequency, I'm getting two errors up on the console telling me to service charging system and active handling system. The handling one will only appear on startup (doesn't seem to matter whether it's a warm or cold start) and if I shut the vehicle off and start it up again it goes away.
The message about the charging system will come on randomly while I'm driving, but the system seems to be working fine. Battery and alternator both test OK - however I haven't been able to time it where I can test either while the error is actually showing, only after it's gone away.
So what do you guys think... am I dealing with a computer issue, or two genuine problems that just happened to start around the same time? Could my alternator or battery be "going bad" but not actually malfunctioning yet? I guess I just don't know enough about what events are triggering those messages.
Well I just found the recall about the active handling so i guess that solves that issue. Maybe there is something wrong with the charging system.
Can't Help you with "Service Charging System", However, There are a few post on this,,; I have not heard of anyone that has come up with a single fix for everyone. Some had the issue after a cam was added, some when the Under Pully was added, a few hit the rev. and it started, and someothers didn't change anything it just started coming up... I don't think it is a 2005 thing either.
I know there are a lot of ppl that would like to hear if you find a fix.
Keep us Posted, Good Luck,,,
There have been a number of posts where the culprit was the starter. They had weird electrical problems, mostly inconsistent starting with the same DIC message. Might want to check it, especially if you have headers.
