Default 05 Corvette Issues...05 owners read

So My 2005 has recently got the "service column lock message on the DIC and I called gm with not much to say...called a specialty shop here in va and they have a 2005 right now with the same problem. They replaced the steering column lock module, no fix....both my car and their car will randomly start when its cool outside but when it sits in the sun and gets hot it wont start at all. The sound you hear when you press the start button is no longer there, that sound of the steering column motor which everybody is familiar with. He said there are 05's dropping like flies yet GM no longer sells the part we supposedly need by itself yet they know about the problem. As for now my car and others are dead in the water until they find a fix. If anybody has knowledge on this please help me out

I thought GM had a recall on this part. I could be wrong.... someone else might need to chime.

they did but for a different issue, that recall was for the steering column locking up during driving or something like that

I have the same exact issue on my '05.

Are you saying GM cannot fix it?

I dont want to say they cant fix it, but from what ive been told by numerous people is that they think they know what part it is that needs to be replaced, but that part is no where to be found and I was told they no longer sell that part by itself. The shop i talked to has contacted GM and even corvette engineers and got no straight anwsers so for now they have us playing a waiting game until this steering column motor part shows up...but even then there are no guarantees.

So what is the part that is supposed to fix it?

I just had a problem...I got a new PCM and they did the harness fix for the column lock message...also got a new roof for free...

Default This will help

This is the part that needs to be replaced. It plugs into the column lock/antitheft module.
