Default A/C condensor

I have been told that I need a new AC condensor on my 06 C6 with 24000 miles due to "road damage". Are there any probs with the C6 condensors?

I found a new aftermarket condensor on the net for $175 vs a new Delco on line priced at $308. Anyone have any experience with aftermarket condensors?

Why are you changing out the Condenser ? Did the system loose its charge? Nothing wrong with a used one if thats what you need. Best be sure.

I have a bad leak somewhere. I was on road with top off and A/C got warmer and warmer and then stared blowing Hot air only. Could not get it to reset or blow cold(I read about the high head pressure problem) so I turned off ( I run it on Auto). Got to autoparts strore and turned it back on: No cormpressor no Rad fan. Knew it was out of or low on refrigerant at that point so I dumped a can of R134a into it and saw a fine mist coming out of the area between the firewall and valve cover on the drivers side. Put in a can of ac sealer and had compressor and fan and Cold air for about 1 hour. Put another can of sealer in and another can of R134a and all seemed fine. It is definitely leaking because the a/c gives out a little less cold air and it takes longer for the fan to cycle down on Auto. Took it to dealer and thought it would be covered by aftermarket warranty. Was told condersor was damaged and it would not be warrantied.

So, if I am going to the trouble, I am not using used parts, but I may use aftermarket, and thus my questions....

Just so you know that the system will leak back out what you put in and when you replace the condenser you cant just put freon in. It will have to be put under a Vacuum with a pump to get the moisture out of the System. Then LEAK CHECKED/. If the system is tight then you can introduce the 134a into the system with a little oil ( PAG) during the filling process. Dont know if you are knowledgable and equipped to do this although you would save some bucks. When it comes to the Garage they can tell you anything. Good Luck.

Thanks.

I just wanted to make sure that there weren't issues with the earlier condensors and find out if anyone had replaced their OEM w/Aftermarket. So far, I am being told that the dif between most after market and OEM is fitment. Do not intend to do work myself but trying to save a couple hundred $ if possible.

What you can do is install the Condenser yourself then take it to the garage to get it leak checked. He will have to pump it out to low vac
and test . If ok then tell him to charge it up for you. Kind of slick but it will work if the mech dont want to gouge you. Good Luck

I have known guys use the OEM and aftermarket condensers without any problems. I would personally get the OEM.

Very easy to install on your own, I have had mine out several times for big engine mod projects. Good Luck!
