C6 locks it's self---Mystery ??
It took 2 hours for a locksmith to get there!!
They thought maybe the wash guy had hit the lock button & closed the door. But I tried it today. I put the key & fob in the car. It beeped when I pressed the lock button, I shut the door and it would not lock just as I thought it should do.
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?
My battery is good, but sometimes my car will not see the FOB at certain positions in the center console or passenger seat.
In order to assure this will never happen again -- TURN OFF PASSIVE LOCKING. (Look it up in the book -- this is in the set up)

So....I'll just refer you over there for a whole bunch of info:

Please advise your friend with the C6 to get on the forum. That's the beauty of it - you can learn all kinds of stuff from the experiences of others.
In addition to never closing the door or hatch/trunk with the fob inside, my best advice is: 1-keep the key separate from the fob, so if they do lock the fob inside all they need to do is use the key to open the car; 2-tell your friend that all they needed to do was call OnStar and have them pop a door open.
Also - tell them to check the key to make sure the cable from the key lock cylinder above the license plate is properly connected in the lever inside the hatch/trunk release.
Yes - you CAN lock the fob inside the car!!!

I did search although apparently not very well.
I did not mean to cause any aggrivation by posting.
They did call Onstar knowing they were not subscribed and as expected they would not unlock the car.
I have my 08 set to lock as I walk away from the car. However when I get home I get out of the car and close the car door so I can raise the garage door. The car has never honked or locked. I assumed that this was because the car was running and it knew not to lock the fob in the car with the engine running.
I have turned the car off in the garage, got out & shut the door with the fob inside and it honked a few times like it is supposed to. The only difference for me between honking & not honking was shutting the car off. This is why I was surprised that my friends car locked its self with the engine running.

OnStar will not work in certain locations either.
Never under any circumstances leave fob in a car unless the windows are down.
Always keep fob on your person, way too many posts here because this is not done.

Set your alarm to active, that way you control when and where the car will lock. It’s no big deal to push the lock button when you get out of the car and THEN PUT THE FOB IN YOUR POCKET.
The car will unlock when you push the door button WITH THE FOB IN YOUR POCKET! The car will then start with the FOB IN YOUR POCKET!
I often wonder what people did before this fob start system came out.

My fob is in a Harley Zippo lighter pouch on my belt - no way to lock it in the car unless I take it off my belt and throw it in and close the doors/hatch.
I know for owners that go to the gym, or to play tennis or golf, they may put the fob in their gym/tennis/golf bag and put it in the car and close the hatch/trunk. Unless you have a key in your pocket or wallet or hidden in a magnetic container somewhere under the car, you can be SOL without OnStar.

It's simple, read the Owners Manual on how to DISABLE the automatic locking. You'll never lock the fob in the car since the fob has to be in your hand to lock the car.
