Has anyone ever painted there engine cover? Because I think my previous owner did and its cracking and looks like crap. So if it is possible are there any painters or shops out there that could repaint it?
or if anyone has advice on how to strip the paint off of it... we're not sure if it's factory or not. It's painted red with crome CORVETTE lettering (all of which is either cracked or peeling).
We tried paint thinner and even tried powerwashing it... andy ideas?
I painted a set of covers myself using standard base coat clear coat automotive paint. Sounds like they may not have primed or prepped the cover properly before painting. Need to use a flexible primer or adhesion promoter to prevent cracking.
I would check the price on new replacement covers.
You can pick up some really good used FRC here in the for sale section rather than trying to sand and prep for paint. That way you can add your own flair to it. That is what I did over the winter. Took my time and even drilled some holes in them to help disapate the heat the covers block from escaping. Check out my avatar.
