Broken transmission sensor

While changing the oil for the first time on my ZR1, I noticed that the "sensor" on the lower left of the transmission is broken, and the wire that goes to it is just hanging there. What is this sensor? Is it fluid temperature, or fluid level, or something else?

Only thing that comes to mind is the CAGS (skip shift). Here are a couple of pic sources for you to compare:

If that isn't it, try to post a pic or two. Maybe the ZR1 has something I haven't seen or am just not thinking of.
