Default LG pro headers installed, my 2 cents.. :)

Well in my garage with no lift and taking my sweet *** time, it ended up taking about 6-7 hours that time includes me getting a bit drunk and chatting with friends, it woulda taken about 4-5 hours but trying to figure out how to keep the rear 02 wires off the top off the headers took me forever.

The car's first mod was a bullet rear section that just made it sound louder obviously no power from that, then i installed a airaid intake system last weekend, could feel a little bit on the *** dyno i would guess maybe 5-8rwhp from that mod but didnt dyno to find out. Then i installed 160 t-stat which helped keep the car a bit cooler was about a noticeable 20 degree drop in temps which was a nice cheap mod.

I then punched out the oem cats to make it as loud as i could (im a kid/ricer at heart) i would say that gave an additional 5-7rwhp but it had way bad drone, i wasnt really happy with the odd sound it was putting out.

So i picked up a set of LG pro's with cat's and or straight pipes, i decided i wanted the loudest i could get and the additional few hp the non cat setup provides, After a day of sweating my *** of in my garage my tuner called and said he could get me in in an hour as i was just finishing up my car, so i hurry and got the car on the ground, cruised around the block for a min to let temps warm up, hit the throttle and i was honestly laughing, i didnt think headers could make that much of a diff, never had them before.

The tone of the exhaust sounds like a real track/race car, the drone is wayyyy lower, but the tone when you gun it sounds amazing and even louder than the previous setup. I would estimate about 20-25 rwhp from just throwing the headers on with no tune, it was DEFINATLY a noticeable jump in power and the top end power is automatically improved drastically.

So went to the dyno my tuner pulled an additional 14rwhp and 16rwtq out of it and got it running nice and smooth and turned off the CEL/skip shift and made my fans come on a little sooner. Final numbers were 372 RWHP and 376RWTQ, that is a gain of 50RWHP over stock so i am happy for now with the power its putting out. If i do any other mods it would probably be either a cam or head/cam package, i thought of doing an intake mani but the cost/$ isnt worth the extra 15ish rwhp to me.

Unless you have money to burn, or you dont have a basic set of tools, this and all the other mods listed should definatly be done by yourself, they are all easy to do and you feel good about it when your done.

How much did that LT setup set you back?

do you think the install was easy enough for an amature to pull off? I have never done headers before and am a little nervous to do it. What catback do you have?

Good job none the less!

It's easy if you are patient. You need:
1. a jack
2. jackstands (ramps for the front will do)
3. a set of metric deep well sockets
4. spark plug socket
5 basic hand tools

You really can't screw anything up. Just like the OP noted, take extra time to deal with the 02 sensor extensions so you don't wind up burning them on the hot exhaust. Good Luck!

Ok that doesn't seem to bad. Thanks for your input. I will most likely do this next spring. I just like to research stuff till I have a solid understanding.

I picked up enough from a stock out of the box Fast 102 to put me at 400 rwhp & 403 rwtq with that and a ported TB being the biggest difference between our cars ( I have American Racing LT's w/cats and stock mufflers). I bought the intake from Hinson for $825 delivered with new gaskets. The better intake will only help you in the long run if you are considering cam or heads/cam plus if you can install headers you can swap intakes in a couple hours!

Congrats on the new sound and power

You think a Fast 102 and ported T/B would give me 28 to the wheels? I wonder if i could find a used one for a good deal?

Elless, i got them used for about 1k, why pay 1800 new when i get the same performance for 800 less . Hell thats a free Fast 102 hehehe.

I like your thinking there!

I sold everything i took off my car as I was installing my bolt-ons and they almost paid for my Fast 102 intake!

Sold:stock air box/intake, stock cats, stock manifolds, stock but ported intake manifold and my stock Z51 shocks.

I do think 28 is possible with the intake and ported TB. I will have to look at my last sheet but I think I got 21 rwhp & 23 rwtq out of my 102 and it is stock out of the box. Port your 102 (when and if you get one) and that 28 number with a ported TB should be a breeeeeeze! LOL

So you're saying you were dynoing 322rwhp stock?
