I think I know the answer to this but I will ask it anyway. Is it ok to hook up the battery tender to the " jumper cable" terminals under the hood on my 09Z. Or should it be hooked up directly to the battery terminals under the rear hatch.

That's where I've been connecting my float charger for the past two years on my 09 Z06. No need to access the battery.
Since it is a low capacity charger it will work better closer to the battery. JMHO Later! Frank
So the new battery tender that GM is offering as an option on the 2011 C6 won't work since it plugs into the cigarette lighter and not connected directly to the battery posts? It's terrible that GM dosen't know anything about electronics, isn't it?.
Jumper cable location will work just fine. I use a cigarette lighter fitting for my battery tender. That way I don't even have to open the hood.
I have mine hooked up to the power post beside the fuse box, with the cable hanging over the vent tubes by the oil tank when not hooked up to the tender. Yep, I have to open the hood when I park in the garage, but that's OK, it reminds me to check the oil! To quote the OM, "It is a good idea to check the engine oil level every time you get fuel. In order to get an accurate reading, the oil must be warm and the vehicle must be on level ground." Well, I don't check it every time I get fuel, but I check it every time I park in the garage - where it's kept when I'm not driving it.
