For those who have a 2-step on their car, how did you hook it up? Im trying to wire it into the clutch switch but there are 3 wires coming out of the clutch switch. 1 wire has a constant 5v, 1 wire is constant ground, and the middle wire is supposed to be the Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Signal. When I hook up a multimeter to the middle (Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Signal) wire it has about 4v running through it and then drops to 1v when I press in the clutch. I dont see how I can hook up the MSD 2 step to any of those.
I had one on my Trans am, with a LS1, so it maybe al ittle different but...
the clutch has 2 sensors, one for the top of the clutch travel (foot off the pedal), and one for the bottom (pressing the pedal all the way tot he floor)
the top is used for cruse control shut off, and the bottom is for the ignition relay. (so you dont start the car with it moving.)
you use the cruse control switch, and normally grab the wire to tap aroudn the computer, on an LS1 car its a blue wiere, and IIRC maybe number pin 42? But i would look that up on a wiring diagram first.
using the top sensor, lets you let out of the clutch a little to stage the car or what ever, with out turning off the 2 step.
Update...I called MSD they told me to hook up the (White/Blue), which activates when given a 12v signal, wire to the middle wire on the clutch swtich, the one that changes from 4v to 1v, and I tried that and its opposite its always engaged untill i push in the clutch.
yea and no, a 2 step, only cuts out spark, alowing the motor to rev to the set RPM, while cycleing the injectors to the amount to which you are at % of throttle.
like if you rev the car to 2000 rpms and dump the clutch, and then floor it, the motor has to add more fuel, and open the throttle boody up, before it starts making more power.
if you are on a 2 step at 2000 rpms, you can hold it floored, so the throttle body is wide open, and the injectors are at WOT settings dumping all the fuel you need to make WOT power, the ONLY thing missing from everything you motor has is spark, (a 2 step kills cyclenders one at a time in an order to keep it at a set rpm.) do when you let off the clutch, spark is instant and the motor does not have to catch up.
How did you check casue there is 2 switches on a vette.
.
yes, and no. The first C6 vets had the switch on the floor, and one up on the dash for the clutch pedal, but GM change them out to a Brake type position sensor in later cars on the clutch pedal instead.
