What does putting the c6's in reverse accomplish? I have an MN6 and have never done it, hell didn't even know about it until today. Do we do it just cause the operators guide says so or does it serve a function?

Only necessary for '05's with their column lock and shutdown procedure.
Yours is '07 so do what you want!
Reverse does offer the most rolling resistance, so it makes some sense to leave it in reverse.

It allows you to drive backwards. For instance, backing out of a parking space or garage/driveway. It's also useful in other ways as well. The possibilities are endless.
In 05 and some 06, you HAD to put the car in reverse to shut down. Failure to do that would keep electrical systems running and the battery would be eaten up and flat die. They fixed this problem with an update to the ECM program. Later cars could be left in any gear at shut down and not drain the battery. The owner's manual recommends reverse at shut down because the gearing is higher and it helps keep the car from moving when parked. It is NOT a mandate to be in ANY gear when shut down as it no longer kills the battery but it may be beneficial if you park on hilly terrain to be in reverse.

You don't need to put it in reverse unless you have an 05, I still put my 08 in reverse every time I park just because it is habit after driving an 05 for a few years.
Awesome thanks for the smart a$$ comment ninjavette. And to think I thought R stood for Race and D was drag. Charma baby Charma
I normally just push those rectangular thingies on the left and right to go.
Thank you others for an intelligent and usable answer.

I thought it was funny. I've never seen a "D" on a stickshift, only an automatic. I believe you mean "Karma".

Relax it was a joke. That's why I put the little winking thumb guy in. The member before me already answered your question so I thought I'd throw a little humor into the mix. No harm meant. I don't think Karma is going to strike me down over this innocent comment made in jest, but thanks.
If you wind up getting work done to your car, or leave it at a dealer for anything, make sure to check if it's in gear when you get back in it. Places that are aware of the Shift to Reverse feature will usually put all C6s in reverse when shutting them off. That's quite a jump when you go to start the car and you aren't expecting it. Ask how I know.
