Default True Custom Exhaust

Has anyone installed a true custom exhaust on their C6? By that I mean has anyone had an exhaust system specifically fabricated for their car? I'm currently on my second exhaust system. I started out with Corsa Sports and switched to a Magnaflow system. My car is scheduled to go into the shop in Aug. 09 to have an Edelbrock E-Force blower installed along with new heads, a cam and Kooks long tube headers. While I realize these changes will have an effect on the sound, I'm convinced it's still going to sound like a Corvette with an LS engine. I've noticed that GTO's and Camaro's with LS engines have a very different sound than Vette's. The only thing I can conclude is that it's because the mufflers are located closer to the engine as opposed to being located at the end of the exhaust system as they are on Vette's. I know the headers I'm having installed will require the use of a specific mid-pipe, but I've been kicking around the idea of having a system fabricated that mounts the mufflers in the tunnel (or closer to the engine) and then uses tubing the rest of the way back to the tips. It appears the Bassani Dominator system uses a similar setup. It looks like there is only 1 muffler that's located in the tunnel and the balance of the system consists of nothing but tubing all the way back to the tips. I wonder if it's possible to purchase parts of this system and then use small after market mufflers like those sold by Flowmaster, Dynamax or Cherry Bomb. If not, I'm sure it's possible to have a system fabricated and use after market tips or the tips off of my existing system. Before investing any money in this I'm curious to learn if any other owners have tried this and if so, what were the results?
