Save your money - I had one on my car for a few weeks and the surging drove me nuts. I then swapped it out for the stock unit one night at the track in between runs and picked up a whopping .04 seconds.

40HP? Puuuhhhhleeaassseee......

Hope that's a typo....because .04 is nothing thru the 1/4. But .4 is really good. So which one is it.
I bought the Vortex Intake from a forum member for $275.00 used. Took the VaraRam off. But I haven't redynoed the car yet. I would say that Vortex is a little smoother at idle. SOTP is about the same.

Nope, that absolutely wasn't a typo - .04 seconds, aka 4/100ths, aka four one-hundredths.

Something a lot of people don't realize is that GM does actually does things right, even with stock parts and especially with the LS3 and LS7. A perfect example is my car in that I ran a 9.950 with stock LS7 injectors, stock air intake, stock intake manifold and stock halfshafts. Heck, I was even running with smaller LS2 headers which are probably equivalent to a stock LS7 exhaust.

I subsequently upgraded my injectors to 60lbs (reflowed LS7 injectors from Jeremy Formato) but that was only to give myself a little bit more breathing room as my IDC (Injectory Duty Cycle) was peaking around 95% at the track.

In reference to the .04 seconds, the reason I mentioned doing the swap at the track is because most people try to report timeslip improvements from different days which really makes the data unreliable. Since DA differences can otherwise make the same car run 2-3 tenths quicker (or slower) from one day to the next, saying something like "my car ran so much quicker with this mod" doesn't mean anything if the data was not all collected at the same time.

As for the surging, if you've got an LS2 then you probably won't have an issue as the LS3/LS7 MAF is considerably more sensitive to airflow turbulence, so much so that I believe Halltech had to create a diffuser to counteract the problem.

Vortex is a true cold air breather, along with Vararam, LPE, and Callaway, to name a few. Most of the rest just breathe warm/ hot engine air. You have to cut the radiator shroud on the cold air units, but it's worth it.

I had one, took it off and sold it because it gave erratic performance which showed up while doing a dyno tune. Replaced it (and my cut shroud) with a K&N (and a new shroud). Problem with tuning disappeared and final result was much better. I don't know why it acted the way it did, I can only guess that it must have produced an unstable turbulent flow somewhere in the intake which the MAF didn't like. Some rpm ranges were actually producing less torque than stock. This was on an LS2.

Well I have one for sale, I removed it from my 07 C6 Ls2 with shroud for 250.00. it's like new, clear and all parts.
I replaced my engine and went with a 100mm Maf so I got a different one.

GREAT unit! GREAT quality! Iv'e been using it for 40,000 miles without any problems. Works as well as any quality CAI and it has a custom high Quality look. Large air intake for a cool forced air at speed. The LS2 and the LS3/ZO6 systems are different...so be sure you know what your purchasing.
