Can the programs for D mode and S mode differ? I'd like the car to shift much firmer than it does. I don't expect it to be like an F1 but I really don't like that it shifts like my wife's Benz either.
Any suggestions on tuning this short of trading for an M6 car? I'd like to auto-x it a bit as well.
I have an 07 Z51 A6 and was wondering the same thing. Also can you use and auto in an auto-X race? I would think that down shifting would make it more difficult in the turns? I do not race, but was just wondering.
I went yesterday for the first time to watch and it looked awesome! I saw a bunch of tiptronic porsches (not PDK which is a manual automatic) and a GTR which was a manual automatic. They looked as if they had no issues except the GTR looked as if it were lumbering and top heavy. I think it is a 4,000 lb car although my car is no lightweight at ~3700.
Short answer, yes. What you are probably talking about, at least in maximum form, is a full A6 tune. But others have done some minor tweaks with HP Tuner. Here's an old thread with some great info in it. If nothing else it helps us understand what's going on and might give you some ideas. Good luck.

Absolutely. Years ago, some of the best/fastest SCCA Solo II and Pro Solo cars in the stock V8 classes (F-bodies/Corvettes) were automatics. Back in the '90s I raced my IROC Z28 and Mustang LX 5.0 automatics in the Solo II F-Stock class and depending on the course would just leave it in 2nd gear for the whole run.

There is a forum vendor who can reprogram your tranny computer to do exactly what you're describing. I'll see if I can find the thread where he discusses it.......
Thanks the reading was very interesting and a good learning experience. I am having a e-force blower installed at ECS in two weeks time. They told me they can program the transmission to shift better and firmer in sport mode and stock in D mode. Which is good because my wife drives the car sometimes.

The car is a 06 A6 vert.
Cheers.
Pm's replied, but I can give a brief answer here too. There is a huge difference in the A6 after it has been properly tuned. We will tailor your tune to specific needs if asked, but we generally set them up so D is firmer and quicker shifting then stock, but still somewhat mellow. Sport mod will be firm shifting, and more agressive at all times, along with the paddle shifters.
If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me, or ask here and I'll check back in later.
For those of you in the N.E., we will be offering our A6 tunes (and all C5/C6 tunes) at Corvettes of Carlisle the weekend of the 27-30th.
I have been reading through transmission tuning posts and came upon a recommendation for either a deletion or a tuning down of torque management as it relates to tranny tuning.
Do you recommend this? Is it a normal part of transmission tuning?

TQ management is usually just lessoned on stock vehicles, but not removed entirely. Guys that are looking for as much power as possable, or have a built trans, get the TQ management shut off completely. It's up to the use of the vehicle.

My car is currently at Livernois Motorsports where it's having an E-Force blower along with heads, cam, headers and Z06 fuel pump installed. A trans. tune will be part of the package. I hope to have it back early next week and will let you know what I think of it. I have several cars - all with automatics and I like the shift characteristics of the A6 the least of all of them. I don't expect it to shift as firmly as the 700R4 in my street rod, but I have a Lexus with an 8 spd. that shifts more noticeably than my A6 does.

I can't wait until my blower arrives and you guys do the install. I may be more excited about the transmission than the extra HP.......well maybe not that excited. Seriously, I can't wait to get the blower to be installed as I have been thinking about this for 2 years. I called the shop the other day and was jacked to get the process started. I can't wait until I get to drive it home.

I too have an 07 C6 Z51 A6 vert... needs to shift better, especially when using the paddles...
