Default simple muffler swap not so simple?

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z51.

I brought it to my local NTB so they could swap my mufflers with 08 NPP mufflers, and they claimed it called for 5 hours of work for just swapping the mufflers.

They claimed that the would have to remove a lot of the rear section of the car to remove the mufflers, including the sway bars, and other underside components. I found this hard to believe and would like to know what the truth is.

I thought swamping stock mufflers, was as simple as unbolting one clamp and sliding the old out, and sliding the new on. Is it really necessary to remove underside components, and even possibly the rear bumper just to swap mufflers as NTB claimed?

thanks

Total BS! Find somewhere else or do them yourself. My brother and I swapped my entire catback on jack-stands in the driveway in under 2 hours. And that was with f*cking around. These are professionals with a lift and all the necessary tools. No way! The vacuum lines and NPP controls may take some time but a straight pipe swap should be done before you get a chance to get comfortable in the waiting room.

<edit> I'm assuming you got NPP mufflers from an '08 Z51 and not a Z06? If they're from a Z06 then some welding and fabricating will be involved but still not 5 hours worth of work. Plus, nothing needs to be removed. Swaybars, underside components, and especially not the f*cking bumper?!!!

I agree with the guy above. You are about to get the shaft.

I will say, however, that on my '05, the sway bar DID need to be removed to take the muffler system down without cutting it to pieces. They simply unhooked one side of the sway bar and the mufflers slid right out.

Find somewhere that will quote you $80-$120. I think this is fair these days.

I had a local shop remove the mufflers from my 05 and replace them with new NPP mufflers....and install the NPP In A Box. I was charged 4 hours for the whole thing. The mechanic said changing the mufflers was the easy part. Installing the NPP In A Box took more time than changing the mufflers.

The bumper definitely does not have to come off. The sway bar can be disconnected to make the job easier.

Dropping the rear sway bar makes it pretty easy, just make sure they load the suspension before they torque the lower control arm bolt.
With a lift it can be done in less than one hour.

I put a set of ZO6 bimodel mufflers on my 07 coupe by myself in about three hours, and that included welding the over the oem axle pipes to the mufflers. You don't need to take off the sway bar. Just remove all of the muffler hangers and the mufflers come right out and the news ones go right in.

You don't have to remove the sway bar, just drop it down. It doesn't take long, 4 nuts.

K.I.S.S.

Drive on a lift.
Remove the mid-pipe.
Remove one bolt and one nut from each of the sway bar clamps and let it swing down
Remove the overaxle pipes/mufflers/tips.

Install NPP pipes/mufflers/tips.
Install mid pipe, clamp mid pipe and overaxle pipes together.
Swing the sway bar back up, install nuts and bolts.
Drive off lift.

If you dont have a lift, use ramps for the rear and a jack so you can get under to get to the X pipe. And the X pipe has to come off (at least it did for me). Find a friend and buy a few beers. 2 Hours tops.

I changed my entire exhaust from the cats back with a floor jack and jack stands in less than five hours and I didn't know what I was doing.
