Default Starting Problems

Hey guys,

I just started having problems starting my 06. Took it out all day yesterday with no issues, went to start it this afternoon and the starter turns and that's it. So i'm thinking its something with the fuel system. I pop the hood and pull the fuse for the fuel pump and it looks burnt on one side. I check it with my meter and it seems to be ok. So just to be on the safe side I swap the fuse with another 20 from the board and bam, it starts right up! So I then proceed to the nearest auto store for some new fuses. I'm in there for about 20 mins (very busy) and come out and try to start it...It turns over, starts for about 4 secs and dies. I keep trying to start it and it will just crank away and not start. A few times it would try and die. I let it sit for a sec, go change the fuse again (which the fuse was ok) and it started. So I drove it around for about 20 mins and it drives fine. I get home, and let it sit for a few, go out to try it and same thing. starts for about 4 secs then dies.

Now a little history of the car (what little I have). I bought this from a fellow forum member about a month ago. It is an 06 Z51 coupe w/ the following mods (that I know of): kenne bell boost-a-pump, cam, headers, corsa extreme, x-pipe, maggie, tune by 21st centry, and a bunch of others that have nothing to do with the engine. Unfortunately, I know nothing else about what has been done to the car which makes times like this very frustrating! When I test drove the car everything was all good, so I went ahead with the purchase. Now that it has actually been driven daily for the past month all sorts of issues have been popping up, this being the latest.

Anyway, sorry for such a long post, but anyone have any ideas?

Jonathan

Does it have the original battery? BTW, a fuse is either good or bad, no in between.

The battery is an optima yellow top. As for the fuse...I have just never a fuse still be good that was all black on one side, but I got continuity.

My first thought is the boost a pump. I don't know anything about it but that would be the first thing I would check. Can you eliminate it for a test?

Ok, here is something new...I had my wife hit the start button while I was standing by the fuse box. As the starter was going, I would tap on the fuel pump relay and it would start. I tried swapping some relays around in the fuse box and it would still only work if I tap on it. I opened up the fuse box to check the connections underneath and everything looks good.
