In theory it should work just like the old carb spacers. Not wanting to start a long discussion regarding spacers.
I'll give you my experience. I tried the hard rubber spacer. It made the trottle body a bit cooler when I checked the temp did not really add anything to my track times posted in my profile. BUT it did distort and cause a rather large vacuum leak making the car run very lean

I change my mind, I now sell TB Spacers and Mine adds 40+HP and installs in 5mins. Cost = a bargain at 199$. Add 25+ for the 3D version good for 5HP more.
They add plenum volume which theoretically adds hp/tq & for the most part it's true & it does work. It is a major pain to install w/o distorting the VR rubber spacer thus creating the dreaded vac. leak. Do a search of vararam spacer & my name. I give very specific instructions on install & it works.
When a VR is properly installed (ie no leaks) you hear a whistling whine starting @ 3K on up which displays how well they actually work. The amount of air they pull.
This makes me wonder though, it is constantly stated they only work at speed when air is literally forced at high speed, but the whine/whistle is present at any speed based on 3K & up Rs which gives me reason to believe it benefits flow both at low (possibly sitting still) & high speed. Any thoughts about this. Not the spacer too many opinions on that & I have mine.

That is why I installed it on my car. I drag race and did not see any material difference with the spacer other than what I have previously stated. Unfortunately over time the hard rubber even with the metal inserts distorted. Granted it took three years but when it did the car ran lean!
had the spacer for about 3 yrs, then i started getting TPS codes when the spaceer became distorted......I took it out and check engine light is GONE!!! Car runs better too!! i will never install the spacer again. The vararam intake does make my car breathe a lot better than stock......car really picks up on the freeway at high speeds when it's cold out!!
