Well, I just did a fuel upgrade for my E-Force. I did some 65lb injectors as well as upgraded the fuel delivery to both sides to each of the fuel rails (Motorhead's mod). Saturday, this morning, and at lunch today...when I press the start button, a loud, metallic POP occurs and the car tries to turn over but doesn't...press the button again and it starts...what the heck is this!? My tuner/installer said to bring it by tomorrow morning so he can have a look...he said that one of the new injectors could have some fuel seeping into something and that sound is from that fuel igniting or something...I have no idea what he meant....what could this sound be? And should I be concerned to drive home?
the drippy injector sounds logical to me. while the car sits a small puddle of fuel is building in one cylinder, then a spark ignites it and POP but does not turn the motor over.
The sooner you get it back to your tuner the better
If you suspect a leaky injector I'd get a fuel pressure gauge on the car. When you shut down the car the gauge will initially drop a few psi as the pump shuts off but should then hold steady. If you have an injector leak the fuel pressure will bleed off pretty quickly.
Tuner could not duplicate the issue (always happens that way)...he is re-flashing the tune to see if that helps...if it happens again, he said to bring it back to him....grrr
