Default Changing battery. Memory? Indexing? etc.

I'm going to change the battery in my C6.

I know I'll need to re-index the windows, but how about the memory in the dash. You know, where you set all the various locking options and other preferences. Will I lose that and have to reset it all, or is it stored in memory somehow even if you take out the battery?

Also, will I lose the "Driver 1" and "Driver 2" memories for seat and mirror positions, mirrors, radio, etc.

Thanks . . . Stu

You "should" be fine. The only thing you "should" have to do is the window indexing. That's not to say strange things haven't happened to a couple members' cars but that's very unusual.

Just curious, what battery are you going with? I have owned my C6 new since July 2006 and I still have the original Delco battery. Thanks!

I hooked the cables to my portable battery booster/jumper pack, then replaced the battery. Nothing to re-set. I went with Optima Yellow top.

My car is about 6 months older than yours, and I'm thinking I might as well change the battery since it's only a matter of time . . . and I intend to keep the car at least 4 more years.

I'm going with an Exide battery, 5 yr warranty . . . Exide primarily because this is what my local mechanic sells. About $97.

Go with the Optima... 4 weeks without driving my C6 and it still starts.

I read Optima's website a couple weeks ago, but couldn't decide if there was actually anything better about their batteries, or if it was just hype.

My audio shop (friend) recommended going with the Optima Yellow Top. He said it's the best battery for the Vette in his opinion. I was going to go with an Interstate, but now I'm considering the Yellow Top.

The only thing you should need to do is re-index the windows. All the other settings are retained. They do not require power to be retained, its flash memory just like your thumb drive.

Don't waste money on an Optima. They are all hype and have a very poor track record, and generally don't last as long as a regular battery. There have been several folks on this very board that have had premature failures of them. Do a simple search and you'll likely turn up at least a dozen such reports.

I had an Optima on my last car, and it didn't even last 2 years before it stopped accepting a charge. Won't ever waste money on one again.
