Default HP Boost

I have a new 2010 GS A6. I love the car and the stock performance however, I am trying to plan in advance for some "bolt-on" HP once the warranty is up. I really dont want to go inside the engine with a new cam. I am thinking about headers and exhaust replacement, cold air intake and maybe a tune. Any idea what kind of HP boost I can get out of some of those simple revisions? Any other recommendations?

LS3's make very nice gains when modded. Go with the stuff you listed first, long tubes, exhaust, and tune and see if you're happy with the gains. if not, then go with a cam and retune, should yield a nice increase. i know you said you didn't want to break into the engine, but you can't really get much more power out of an LS3 after you do long tubes and a tune. maybe a FAST 102 and 102mm Throttle body, but dont expect to see the gains from those mods as you would with just a cam.

Don't forget to get a nice torque converter.

If you want your A6 fast, that's where it's at.

Every auto I have owned has had an aftermarket stall put in it and I wouldn't have it any other way. Makes the Autos drive SO much better and are beasts on the launch.

Thanks for the suggestions. I never would have thought about the torque converter.

A converter and a decent tire will drop more ET in the 1/4 mile than any other bolton.

Headers and the cold air cleaner will make some power but the exhaust wont give you anything. A tune is mandatory unless you want to have an 11.5:1 a/f ratio at WOT.

Gears are a great mod for light to light fun and will drop your 60' considerably. They also need a minor tuning adjustement.

A ported intake manifold is another 10hp.

All these things totaled will be about 5000 bucks. You can of course bolt on a $6000 supercharger and be as fast as a ZR1 with all the other items left stock. That needs a tune too.

FWIW, I got longtubes, offroad x-pipe, CAI, and a stg 2 ported stock intake and dynotuning for a grand total of $1125 bucks.

Just have to wait until the right deals come about

used or new? thats very very very cheap and most will never be able to find that deal. i got a good deal on my kooks long tubes (770 shipped) and my ghl exhaust (575 shipped) then i needed 02 extension wires (100) and a halltech intake (165) all that, without a tune, i installed myself and i'm at 1600. dyno tune from any good tuner/shop will be minimum 300, more like 400-500. so a quote of 1125 isnt really a good estimate of what those mods will cost.

I got the Longtubes/x-pipe for 300 (new...ebay ), K&N CAI for 125, stg 2 formatto intake for 325 (minus whatever I can sell my stock one for) and dynotuning for 400.

So I guess 1150 actually.

My point was you can mod these cars fairly cheaply.

My most recent addition was a 3200 yank that i picked up for 400 bucks.

In total, the mods on my car are at around 1500 bucks ( + 300 for a set of C5 Z wheels and Nitto Drag Radials I got) and I know it's going to run sub 11.5s (without the ported intake installed yet) as soon as I get a decent launch.

You don't have to spend a ton of money to go fast. I will admit I got a fairly awesome deal on some of this stuff, but most people can get close to the same deals if they look and wait (minus the headers, since I don't know if they're being sold anymore). I can guarantee that my car will be running high 10's with less than 2500 into it total before February.

Be careful with the budget after market parts. You really do get what you pay for. That's not to say that you cant find some used QUALITY parts for less....but when things seem too good to be true....that's usually the case.

Just keep your eyes out for USED good name brand headers, intake, etc......if you dont want to go new (with warantees).

Good luck and have fun!

Well, as I mentioned, no modifications will take place until the warranty runs out which will be a while. I was looking for, and do appreciate all of the suggestions. It never hurts to put my Christmas orders in early So far my daydreams seem to be leaning towards the Edelbrock E-Force supercharger with a nice sounding Borla system but that could change.
Thx all again.
