Default X Pipe Question

ok, I have an 09 base C6, soon to be e-force supercharged (554 HP kit), I'm running an SLP loudmouth II cat back, what X pipe will work? (yes, other than stock) and I'm probably not going to go with headers at this point, but may later (sorry for the incomplete question..somewhat of a rookie here) should I go with high flow cats? thoughts appreciated, thanks folks.

I assume you mean other than your stock X-pipe?

Do you not want to run Longtubes?

You already have a stock X pipe, why pay a couple of hundred $$ for a different one? There won't be a measurable HP/TQ gain. If/when you buy headers they will have their own X pipe so you will get to pay twice for the same thing.

Default Go all the way or leave it.

It's a bad idea to piece meal an exhaust. If your gonna change something go to headers, hi-flow cats, x-pipe. If cost is an issue, consider a complete used Z06 exhaust or leave it. I understand not wanting to do headers, but you will be leaving a lot of power on the table.

To the rest, has something changed, or is the stock crossover actually an H-pipe, if so what year did GM start doing that?

Finally, I read the articles on the Edelbrock SC & the 2 kits, it was actually on Hot Rod TV this morning. Do the hp/tq #s come from a dyno w/ headers? It has to be a bench dyno given crank hp vs rwhp.

I thought is was a H pipe on the factory exhaust as well. The ZR1 has an X pipe but the Z06 I know has a factory H pipe. I changed mine out to ZR1 X pipe and added Corsas. 2009 Z06 by the way.

H-pipe and x-pipe are basically the same thing.

H-pipes really just balance exhaust & have more effect on sound/tone than performance, X-pipes actually effect balance & flow thus performance.

To exaggerate, kinda like saying exhaust manifold & headers do the same thing, they do, but they're different.

That's why a ZR1 comes w/ an X-pipe, becuz the car design was performance 1st cost 2nd, & H-pipes are found on everything else where production cost is 1st & perf. is 2nd.

I can't say ur wrong, but Got2hav1 said his '09 Z06 had an H-pipe just above, which wouldn't make much sense, if X-pipes were factory on '08 base C6s. All I can say for sure my '05 had an H-pipe, I've seen C6 Z06s with them and Vipers when they came out w/ the V-10 had H-pipes as well.

The "H" pipe on the 2.5" and the 3" stock pipes only has a 3/4" hole on each of the exhaust pipes the "H" is connected to.

I found a photo of a LS3 and it does indeed have a X pipe. Weird that GM would install a X pipe on the LS3 but retain the H pipe on the LS7.

When you install the headers; install the cats.
As above, build the entire (just once) exhaust system will save you time and money.
