Default Headers = horsepower?

Hi, have a 05' Z51 sixspeed, installed hurricane induction, nology wires & 170degree thermostat.(supposed to equal 35h) Have spoken with tuner in Grand rapids mi and he states that if I install kooks headers with either highflow, or drilled out cats, and with adding headers should equate to 485+ hp. with his custom dyno tune, says he's done it before Is this realistic? Appreciate any response oh forgot to add said he'd he's got'em getting up to 34mpg

With those mods you could realistically hit in the 390 rwhp horsepower range.

Headers are an absolute must-have mod if you plan on making power. They will wake your car up a good deal and pick up ~25 hp at the wheels.

Floyd, C-6 has 400hp at the crank, all these mods and I would only get 390rwhp?

Could be, depending on baseline numbers...maybe a little less.

Yep...it's just a shot in the dark, but most seem to pull 385-395rwhp with full intake/exhaust and dynotuning.

The track's where it's at though. See what kind of MPH you hit to really know your power.

You won't get 485 rwhp without a bigger cam. You will definitely need a tune with headers or other significant mods so just budget that in.

I would not mess with the cats. Most aftermarket cats are tiny and little to be gained by gutting them. Its also illegal.

Maybe if you were trying to make 800 hp but not if you are just installing headers. Lots of threads on this forum discussing mods and resulting power increase.

Just my opinion.

Stock your car is in the mid 340 rwhp range generally, so yes, with intake and full exhaust (plugs/wires and lower themostat wont add any power) you'll be picking up about 45-50rwhp after tuning.

Your car will feel much quicker with headers. It's a great mod

I have an '05 Z51 A4 with an almost identical set-up. Hurricane CAI, headers (dont know what company) and a B&B exhaust and tune.

My car pulled a 378rwhp/372tq on a dyno. And I ran a 12.64 @ 111mph at the track.

485 crank HP? doubt it.

Our LS2s 6 speeds put down in the 340s stock, on a Dynojet dyno. Headers and tune are usually good for 20-25whp or so, intake usually does not show a gain on the dyno. Doubt your plugs give you power, and tstat maybe a HP or two.

I also doubt his claim of 34mpg, sure we get around 28-30 highway taking it really easy, but come on now.

I would check the shop's references, and use a reputable shop that's not messing with you. Drilling the cats too? Come on now.

You probably won't hit 485 at the crank, IMHO, with CAI, tune, headers on the LS2 engine. We usually talk in terms of rwhp here, so you won't even be close with those mods.

Similar to a previous post, I had 378 rwhp with CAI, ECS tune, headers on my 05 LS2. After installing ECS cam kit and ported FAST92 intake manifold I reached 462 rwhp.

So he's saying you'll gain 85hp with CAI, headers and tune. It will be more like 35hp. Find another shop that won't BS you.

Actually the 34mpg isnt too hard to believe.

My car, LS6 A6 with full boltons and tune, got 33-34mpg at 70mph regularly.

Now that I have my Yank Converter installed I still got 31mpg consistantly driving home from the track last night at 80mph

If you had an LS3 I would say that was right on. LS2 will be 30hp or more behind.
