Default Katech Torquer LS3 cam test results

This camshaft was tested last year by GM High Tech (http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...son/index.html) and scored very high overall in each category. We wanted to get some data on our own engine dyno to show the results with WCCH ported LS3 heads and validate our LS3 Camaro & Corvette head/cam package.

Engine: LS3
Camshaft: Katech Torquer LS3 224/236 .581/601 113LSA
Heads: WCCH CNC-ported LS3
Dyno headers
C5-R timing chain
Halltech air intake system
Everything else on the engine is stock

531hp, 480 ft-lbs

What would this equate to in a car with the driveline and other modification like a cold air?

It depends on the chassis dyno.

Probably around 465rwhp I would imagine...just a guess, but ~15% loss seems pretty normal at these power levels.

Did this engine have a full accessory drive (water pump, alternator, etc.)? Just wondering why the GM High Tech motor made more power with stock LS3 heads and the same cam. Just curious, as I have a very similar cam in my LS3.

What impact does increasing the exhaust duration from 230 to 236 degrees make? By reducing the exhaust duration, overlap will decrease and, in theory, improve low rpm torque and idle. No doubt there will be an impact, but the question is how much is sacrificed.

One more point.... my understanding is the blanket 15% reduction factor has been pretty much put to pasture. For the Corvette, there seems to be agreement that ~ 55 hp for the manual and ~65 for the automatic.

Water pump, damper, and PS delete pulley.

That is the difference between our dyno and many others out there. It's why we're always questioned on having "low" numbers, but in the real world we outperform.

I agree, that a blanket ~15% isn't correct; that's why I used the qualifier "at these horsepower levels".

I could still be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised at 465-470rwhp from that and certainly could be higher if the motor was being run with it's accessories.

I think one thing is certain though...Katech backs up their name with performance where it counts (not on a dyno)

Awesome results! Yet again it shows the LS3 does not need a large cam to make sick power

I'm installing a Comp 218/230 XFI 116 +2 cam in my LS3 equipped G8 GXP next month and fully expect some huge across the board gains. I'm keeping the stock TC and plan on idling the car around 650rpm for a slight lope. If I was doing at least a small TC then this is exactly the cam I would have used.
