If you have Auto Lock with the Horn notification preference selected via the DIC, you can still manually lock the car after you exit by using your fob within about 8 seconds, and the horn will not sound.
Handy feature when you don't want to disturb the neighbors/family.
Might not hurt to familiarize yourself with some of the car's other features by reading your Owners Manual.
Does anyone know of a way to disable the key fob horn function on a 08 C6? I am tired of the thing going off when I carry my keys in the shop.
Do you mean that the horn beeps when you press lock on the FOB? Or that the horn beeps when you walk away without pushing anything on the FOB, or that it beeps when you approach your car without using the FOB? You say it goes off "when I carry my keys in the shop". Need more info.
A couple of shots in the dark...
If you leave the FOB in the car and close the door it will beep three times to let you know the FOB is inside. I think it only does this if you have autolock turned on in the DIC. Also, if you press lock twice on the FOB when outside of your car it will beep once confirming for you that the car is locked.
I took the key out of the fob. Then, using a knife to get it started, I pried the fob halves apart and put tape over the alarm contacts in the middle row (between the contacts and the outer button). Then I snapped the halves back together. It cannot go off now. I did this to both of my fobs.
If the alarm button gets pressed accidently while the fob is in your pocket and you want to stop that function, then do the fob mod.
Open the fob and place a small piece of scotch tape between the button and the PC board in the area of the alarm button. If you have a similar problem with unlocking the doors or popping the hatch, you can cover those connections too.
I deactivated all of mine, because I never used the buttons anyway.
That's what I was looking for. Thanks, nothing like working on something in the shop, and the stupid horn scaring the crap out of you. Never could figure out who thought that up in the first place, a dumb thing.
The other choice is to buy a fob jacket (Google), then cut a thin piece of semi-rigid plastic to fit inside the jacket and cover the buttons. Mark where the buttons are, take out the plastic and drill/punch a 1/8" hole over each button.
That totally eliminated by unwanted alarms, trunk popping open, etc. But I can still use a ball point pen to push the buttons.

Thanks for the suggestion, I already used the fob mod. Tape did the trick.

What's the trick? I'm trying to open the fob, but I'm just scratching the fob case?
