Default Transmission help - Please

I could use some help from the experts... or anyone else, for all that matters.

Basics:
I have a 2008 LT1, automatic, 25,000 miles - Stock with the exception of a Blackwing cold air intake.

Problem:
I have a question regarding the transmission that is driving me nuts. (And yes, that is a short drive.)

The transition from slowing down, like in rush hour traffic, to acceleration comes on with a hesitation and then into gear with an impact you can feel and hear. Same issue with the change from reverse to forward. It also occurs, occasionally, on up or down shift. This doesn't happen all of the time and I can't seem to pin down a specific cause and effect. Beside the fact that it is a little embarrassing, I have been caught off guard while exiting a corner, with the hesitation and then acceleration, hitting hard enough to initiate wheel spin. (Not exactly a confidence builder, when you don't know what the car is going to do.)

Research, to date:
Since the car is under warranty, I have been taking it to the dealer. After 4 attempts, I took the tech for a drive and was able to recreate the problem. He was a little surprised and said he would have to do some research. At the end of the day, I was told the car passed all of the tests and they didn't know what could be done.

As I understood it, we are really talking about simply hooking up a computer and monitoring the transmission, while putting the car through it's paces. Since nothing showed up, they are at a loss. (Even though the tech had agreed it was not normal.) The only suggestion was to put the car in for a 30,000 mile service that includes a transmission flush, thinking some minor debris may be stuck in the throttle body. (I wasn't pleased with this as a possible solution or the quoted cost of $700.00 for the 30,000 mile service.)

I would hope someone here has had the same issue and appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks
Bob

My guess is your trans needs the PIP 4395 TSB work done.

Here's the original thread that "used" to have the TSB in post 27 but it has been removed, but the info is all good:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-shifting.html

And here are 2 more, both contain the body of the the TSB wording you can print out if you have to:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ip-4395-a.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...ip-4395-a.html

Good luck, let us know what happens.

Have them check

Reference Number(s) 01-07-30-042F dated Feb 05, 2010

says 2-3 upshift 3-2 downshift clunk is normal

I know this may not address all your concerns

Rick and Glen
Thanks for the help. I plan to gather as much information as possible, before my next trip to the dealer and some of the links will help.

Had the PIP4395 done on our '08. Solved the "R" to "D" hesitation and clunk when cold. It also improved the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. Not so much improved the shift quality, but more so the consistency. It'a bit more predictable now, w/o the harsh 2-3 shift at times. As far as the hesitation after slowing and getting back in the throttle, I'm afraid you'll find the same answers in your research that many others have. The only true fix is to get your TCM tuned by a respectable/experienced tuner. That will solve all of the quirks that the A6 has. GM's tune is geared souly towards getting the trans in 6th gear as quickly as possible, and keeping it there as long as possible. Not the best tune for a "performance" car by any means, but it is what it is. If you have concerns about warranty and getting a tune, then you might have to get used to the A6 issues.
or
You could just use the paddles all the time, and then you can control what gear you're in.

Good luck!

You would think with all the compaints people have had with the A6, GM would get off thier *** and hire one on these aftermarket tuners to give them a hand on how to tune one of these. They can be tuned to shift like a true performance car, I know Iv'e had mine done, screw the warranty.

Hey Pipes!
Your post could have been written by me, word for word. I have been to the dealer three times and heard the same old song and dance. I changed dealerships and it is scheduled to go in on the 29th to have TSB 4395 done. Good luck and I will let you know how it turns out.

I have gone through the threads suggested in the replies, including comments on TSB 4395, and copied the most relevant posts. I then took them to my dealer and asked them to do their homework. Expect to hear something, this week and hope to get it resolved.

Your results would be appreciated, in case I don't have any luck with my dealer and could use it for leverage.

My thanks to everyone posting with help and direction.

Hey Bob,

I got my car back yesterday and i'm very pleased so far!
I can't make it "flare" and the paddles work sooo much better, very smooth shifts. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
