In preparation for winter modifications, I have a few questions relating to the O2 Sensors in a 2006 C6. I intend on purchasing a set of headers for my car. However, I would prefer an off-road application but I have some concerns. Obviously, my first concern would be my vehicle and to ensure that I do not cause any long term damage to the motor or anything else. Second, I need to pass NYS inspection since the car does see street time.
I have read that while tuning (which I intend on doing), it is possible to shut off the O2 sensors after the catalytic converters. If this is done will I still pass inspection?
If not, has anyone tried to create an electrical relay that puts out the specified current to 'trick' the computer?
I have no idea what New York does in regard to their emissions inspections, but yes, you can program the car to NOT throw any codes even if the rear O2 sensors are completely missing.

The rear O2 sensors only check to see if the cats are doing their job. Part of the emission test in Texas is checking the PCM to see they are working. Someone with tuning software (HP Tuners for example) can easily change the PCM reporting to pass the OBDII plug in check. They won't any affect to your engine performance or anything. Many tuners do this when installing headers. Mine did.
You should be aware the EPA says its illegal to tamper with the emission system.
