I was driving today and a light came on saying "Service Traction System". Shortly after, it said reduce engine speed but had no throttle response. I coasted to about 25 mph. I slowed down even more so I could stop off to check the engine. The car just shut completley off while rolling in the middle of traffic. Luckily I was able to steer into a parking lot. Checked the engine and it looked fine. I diconected the battery for about five min then reconnected so the computer would reset. The engine light went off and I headed home. Just before I made it home it did the same thing. Fortunately I was right in front of an Autozone. They plugged it into their diagnostic and it displayed "bad or weak power to (tps) throttle position sensor". What causes this and what do I need to do to fix it?
I have the same problem on my 2005 C6, and it is not covered by the Service Traction System (Active handling system) recall. I still haven't figured out how to fix it.
What are the tire sizes on this car? If the sizes are too far from stock front or rear, the car can think the tires are spinning at higher speeds and cause problems like this.
This might be purely coincidental, however, when I first picked up my 05, I had several "service Traction Control" messages. After several trips to the dealer, he replaced a speed sensor on one of the wheels and it never happened again.
