I found that the stickier the tire, the more feel I had with the car at the limit.
When the stock tires would let go, the rear would just come right around
I like the NT05's for the street, and I hear they do pretty well on the track also. I'm looking at getting 18x11's on the rear though so I can run a 305, in the Nitto 555R2's in the rear. The main issue I have had with grip on the C6 has come from the rear.
Running a really hard tire (like the stockers) on the track will cause them to over heat and come apart. You live and learn
