Got under the car today and theres a grinding sound like a bad bearing. The sound comes from the front where the torque is as well as in the rear. Anyone have experience with the torque tube couplings?
I had that problem before. I had it fixed at Bob Stall Chevrolet here in San Diego .I think they did replaced the bearings . They removed the whole transmission to get to the bearings. Since then i had no problems.
Last August I had all bearings (one front and two rear) and both black rubber elastomers ("guibos") replaced in my early 2007 A6 torque tube. The problem was actually caused by an assembly error at Bowling Green. The splined inner shaft that should have slid fully into the rear of the crank shaft missed seating properly by about 1/2". When the outer case bolts were torqued, both guibos were pushed back about 1/4" each and the front bearing failed to seat in its collar. How my torque tube lasted 140K miles without disintegrating is a miracle. Be advised that these bearings and guibos are getting quite scarce -- GM Parts doesn't stock them any more -- so don't postpone this repair.

The dealership down here will not do any repairs on the drive shaft they replace the complace torque tube which includes the drive shaft....They gave me a quote of $3400 plus...Screw them!!

The labor on my bill is $2200. I watched a few videos and did the research enough to know that it was out of my league to fix myself. What makes it worse is it's a 2012 with 18K miles on it. Built on a Friday, I guess.

By the GM labor book it is 12 hours labor....The Dealer here is $160 per hr for a untrained tech to do the work. The Torque is around $1500 with tax...Damm for GM putting in such cheap bearing.BTW: I'm at 79000 miles.

They say the bearings didn't look too bad but they are making noise. The rear one a little more than the front.
