Default Differential Question

My friend who is 69 and has an 07 is getting the Edlebrock super charger in the spring for his vette. He's trying to get me to do the same I'm 63. I have a late model 05 with the Z 51 package. I've read that the 05 differentials are not as strong as later years. Would my diff need some work before i'd even considered the super charger.

Thanks
Jerry

It is weary possible that you will break it and if that happens it is most likely you will damage output shaft in the transmission. It is les expensive to take out what you have and get newer trans with dif and sell your trans and dif to someone that have broke diff on stock C5 2005.

I have over 80K miles on my 05 C6 with 462 rwhp (cammed, etc.) through 4.10 ring & pinion added to OEM differential housing. No problems so far, but I don't track the car and i don't have super sticky R compound tires on the rear. However, there have been reports of cracked housings with the 05 C6 so it may be a crap shoot. One thing I am pretty certain of is that your clutch won't hold with a supercharger. And you're talking big bucks to change a clutch in these cars.

There is not a problem with the trans as listed in the second post but the potential for diff breakage is real. If it does break it will take out the mainshaft. Really depends on how lucky you are or are not. Mine shattered under light wheel spin but the actual damage may have been done at any time in the previous 4 years. Your core does have value now but after it gives up it's worthless. I was one of the hard headed ones that thought it wouldn't happen. With first hand knowledge I would replace it before you lose more $$ than necessary.

Well to me the mans shaft is part of the trans.

Well...it's a whole lot cheaper to replace the mainshaft and beef up the existing trans than replace it.

To the OP'er, you would need to replace the tailshaft housing to a 06-07 C6 unit and bolt up 06-07 diff. It's not that bad if you tackle it yourself.

And I might add the piece you made was better than what came from the factory. Daughter's great. I gotta' tell you Rodney I was really impressed! Good holidays to all of you.
