Anyone tried the Volant CAI for a LS2 LS3 or LS7. It looks flippin sweet.
I'm torn between Vararam and the Honker. Seen lots of solid feedback about the Vararam's performance. Seen lots of solid feedback about the Honker's quality. Could the Volant CAI be the best of both worlds???
Not a track person, and my vette will NEVER see a drop of rain (made it six months so far). So hyrdolock is not a concern. Drive a 1,000 miles a month...weather permitting. Bottom line, if I spend +/-$500... I want the BEST. Please chime in and help me pick.
ALSO: Big thank you to all the folks who turned me on to the LS7 exhaust for the LS3. Saved a grand, and do not have to worry about all of the LT Header headaches. My dealership is doing the install! WIN, WIN for my situation.
If I were dead set on a aftermarket air filter, I would consider the Volant, but only because it is available with a Donaldson Powercore filter element. I will not put an oiled cotton gauze filter on my car.

Thanks in advance!!!
Will your vette melt in the rain? LOL. Just kidding but rain is not going to hurt it nor does it do any worse in the rain than any other car. I wouldnt let rain stop you from driving it as long as you dont try swimming with it.

Interesting point. Looks like I have more research to do. Thanks!

properly oiled filters will not hurt anything. K&N has been around for ages and has had no damage done to engines with their filters. Now if you over oil it then the oil will mess with the MAF sensor wire causing bad readings. Ive had them on my last three cars, two of which were turbos and had no problems. Also no matter what filter you use, it wouldbe a good idea to get some MAF cleaner and use that once or twice a year just to keep the sensor wire clean.

You jinxed me. Coming home I came across snow flurries that lasted for about 30 secs. Lucky for me I was going at speed so I don't think the flakes came in direct contact with my car. WOW, close call.
I guess nobody has tried the Volant. Guess I'm back to the VaraRam vs. Honker debate.

Sorry didnt mean to jinx you. If you drive fast you can avoid them. lol.

I have two friends with maggies and the Honker. Both do not have cut shroulds, they are mounted on standoffs and draw air from the air breather compartment, same as a stock filter does. One is a Callaway C6, the other is a GS built by ETMC.
I've always wondered why the Honker without a blower uses a cut shrould and the one used with the blower uses the standoffs. BTW, the honker used on the LS3/7 may cause surging. Callaway offers a $50 diffuser to solve that problem. They just don't mention it.
I would be afraid to drive a Vararam in the snow. Some snowflakes might go into the intake opening and then into the engine and freeze the engine up.
Think I'm going to pull the trigger with the Volant. Would feel much better if some one could confirm that it works.
I like the Vararam's results, but don't like the looks of it. The Volant has a much more stock look to it. Just hope it brings performance equal to the Snake Charmer.
