Default Oil Cooler Recommendation Needed

I use my 2005 C6, 6spd z51 4 times a year at VIR for HPDE courses. My Oil temp has been running about 257' on the driver info system. I add the extra quart of oil for the track like the owner's manual says. Some say 257' is too high for a 30 minute session. Doesn't seem to matter whether I am running in the summer or the winter, the car likes 257' when it is driven hard. Anybody put an oil cooler on their C6 they thought was easy to install and effective?
Thanks in advance for the help and info

If my memory serves me properly, the 2005 MN6 Z51 car came with an engine oil cooler in the radiator. From the factory the car should have two hard lines that enter the driver's side tank of the radiator which feed the oil cooler in the radiator. You can upgrade to the much larger Z06 external cooler without much effort. It's a direct bolt-on with the exception of having to drill holes in the black plastic baffle for the oil lines and the mounting bolts. You'll need both the cooler and the Z06 oil lines. Complete Z06 takeoffs show up from time to time in the For Sale section...pricey if you have to buy new though. If you don't want to drill holes in your existing baffle just order the Z06 radiator baffle which comes predrilled....about $40.00

I'm pretty sure all C6 Z06 year models use this same cooler setup. The 2010+ Grand Sport with dry sump also uses the same cooler/lines.

Recently installed the Z06 Oil Cooler in my 2008, LS3, MN6 w/F55 (no factory oil or ps cooler).

Here is what I have experienced:

- Install was not too bad, I could do the next one in 2 hrs or so now that I know where to run the lines, cut the shroud and place the clips. Let's just say the first time took me an afternoon.

- Normal driving was at 220 to 230, now runs between 185 & 195. I do not have an issue with long warm up in 55 degree temps (live in S Cal).

- Spirited on Street (local canyons) was at 245 to 255, now runs 205 to 210.

- Track Day (@ Streets of Willow) was at 280 to 300, today I saw a high of 250 at the end of a session w/air temp at 55 degree's. Was at 235 ish after cool down lap and back in pits.

So far seems to be meeting my expectations which were to drop track day temps to below 275.

Feel free to PM with any questions regarding install.

I am now looking to install a PS Cooler as I seem to be boiling my fluid at track days.

I also installed the Z06 oil cooler (used from a Z06 that was upgrading to dual oil coolers). I am seeing a consistent 40 degrees drop in temp, street or track. Very happy with it.

Not trying to raise the dead on this one, but does anybody have data adding a Z06 oil cooler to a C6 Z51? My oil temps are now getting into the 270's midway through a track session here in Miami and I'm looking for more cooling than the stock EOC (built into the radiator) can give me.

Thanks for any responses.

Sean

Edit: looks like this thread started with the Z51 integrated radiator/oil cooler in mind. Never mind. Anybody know where I can get a complete kit used?

Another option is a better radiator w/integrated oil cooler
Ron Davis radiators provide 20% better cooling over the oem radiator, that combined with the integrated oil cooler should do the job as well

Breatless Performance normally has take offs at a good price. Late model Z06coolers are not the same because the intercooler for the blower goes were the oil cooler was so they changed it on the Zo6 and ZR1.

I think you need a pre 2008 or 2009 Z06 cooler. I also have a Z51 and when I upgraded to a Z07 radiator, I got a Z06 cooler from Breathless that they took off a car complete with oil line.

FWIW, we had an oil engineer say that generically speaking, he likes 5W-30 oil to be between 190' and 260' for full throttle operation. The lubrication ability does not fall off a cliff if you are a few degrees colder or warmer, but those are the numbers he prefers.

Got a lead on cooler and lines. In looking at the screenshot above of the assembly, I would still need numbers 10, 11, 8, 7, 1 (and possibly 2, 3).

Can these parts be purchased separately from Gene or other vendor? No part numbers listed for the retaining clips or connectors...
