Default Weirld problem

My car will charge my battery at 18 volts and my radio will turn completely off when I start giving it gas from light to light. Wondering what going on?

Sounds like the battery is sucking all the electrons out of the radio.

The standard answer to odd electrical stuff on a C6 is usually battery related. I see you have an 05. Do you still have the original battery? If you do, it might be time to replace it.

I actually replaced it 5 months ago but I went outside just now and pop the hood and there seem to be battery acid on top of the battery.

I'd check it with a meter to see if it is really charging 18 volts. While I'm not positive, that sounds out of spec. An overcharge could result in the battery pushing fluid out causing the acid you see on top. The radio might have an overvoltage cutoff to prevent damage, but I'm just speculating on that point.

Is there a voltage regulator on the alternator that could be fried?

Didnt this car have extensive water damage a while back? if you get your car deep enough into water, who knows what it did to the electrical system.

Here is what I would do, but I'm not a pro, I just tinker.
Test the battery with a voltmeter, then start the car and check the voltmeter again to see what the alternator is putting out. Should be 12.xx for battery, then 14.xx with the engine running. If the voltmeter reads 18 with engine running, I'd suspect the voltage regulator. And like Jcrumpley mentioned above, voltage too high could cause the acid issue you see.

Some idiot said it was all the way past my hood which was a HUGE exaggeration there was a picture of the car sitting in the water which even looked like it was barely even touching the black stip that hangs below the front bumper(forgot what it was called). The person who claimed electrical fail was a person who works for a company in Lubbock doing work on the side trying to cover his *** because the car was sent to 3 different shops (After him) and every thing he was claiming was not the case it was due to a In proper cam install, but enough of that its in the past. I took a reading with the meter and every thing seems to be doing fine but i noticed that my battery cables where a little loose I wonder if this can cause problems?

I agree totally. About the highest you should ever see is like 14.5vdc, past that, something is really wrong with the regulation circuit in the alternator. Pull your codes with a reader to see if its reporting anything but chances are, you need a new alternator and right away before it cooks everything in the car.
