I kept my original rubber grommets and parts when I switched to Bilsteins. The stuff those shocks came with were very generic looking. If you remove your shocks and take your time it should be obvious. Did you use your original rubber parts when they were switched originally?
The piece that has the long shaft goes on the front shocks. It goes up from the bottom, through the opening.
There was a really good do-it yourself thread about the shocks. Let me see if I can find it.
