A6 Paddle Shifter
Does anybody know if there is a kit or an aftermarket center console shifter that will put the paddle shifter option together with the actual shifter? My son's VW GTI has both the paddles on the steering wheel and the "manual" shifting on the shifter so both can be used. I have searched a lot of vendors and it seems nobody has anything like that, which I found a little strange. I love to manual shift, but I hate the paddles on the steering wheel, it is just not natural!!
(and yes, I know I could have bought a manual instead of an A6, but I have what I have!!!)
I don't think something like that is even possible with the way the stock shifter assembly is set up, at least not without A LOT of custom work performed.
ECS makes a kit so that one paddle is for upshifting and the other is for downshift, similar to European sports cars. Maybe that would be more tolerable.
I've been watching/looking for something like that too and haven't seen anything yet. I prefer to do my auto-manualling (is that a real phrase? ) via the console shifter too. Maybe some day.

My wife had an 08' GMC, Acadia, that, had the "auto-manual" shift button on the center console stick. You could shift up or down with the press of a button or just leave it in drive. It worked OK going up and down our mountain roads.
As i have had mine apart several times, there is NO WAY this is even remotely possible with anything the factory has given you. the shifter is a mech deal that hooks directly to a cable, that just moves a part on the trans from p-r-n-d-s. ALL the actual gear solection is done via a computer and solonoids, nothing mech is used. this is not and cannot be done,,, UNLESS< you got someone to instal the paddles on the actual hande itself.

Or, as I would assume, some aftermarket company comes out with something that would disengage the shifter when in "s", and the shifter itself becomes sorth of a paddle by moving it to the right or left (i would guess), kind of like a lot of other cars. Either way, sounds like a big project that would not be worth it. Well that sucks!!! Maybe someday there will be a kit for it.
