in the frame rail that is under the front bumper there is a piece of metal shaped like an accordian, what is it? what is it's purpose? can it be safely removed? and how?
im installing a tow hook that i made and need to beable to drop in some befy bolts through the frame
Post a picture of what you are talking about. Maybe you are refering to the skid bars, which are part of the radiator support and hang down under the bumper cover.

if you look at the tube at the very front of the car, there is a peice of metal shaped like an accordian inside of it that is preventing my from reaching my arm into the tube
If the hollow cross-beam is replaced, I think the accordian-shaped impact absorber inside gets installed as a separate part. If that's true, and I can't guarantee it, then you can probably remove it for your work.
Maybe a body shop that does Corvette work will know?
It is a crumble zone designed to take the inertia from an impact and crush itself instead of transferring to the passenger compartment. I myself would not mess with it, but that is me.

me neither, i realized there is a difference in modding and hacking, i drilled a hole just larger than my bolt head and can fish it through, the frames on these cars are harned steel, it ate 2 drill bits, just got back from home depot with a cobalt bit, hopefully that does the trick
Dang it! 2 bits and a run to the hardware store! That sucks! I never understood why they did not have any way to hook a tow strap up to these cars. Oh well good luck sir!

Cobalt bit did the trick, drilled my holes, fed bolts through, added washers to make the hook sit exactly where I want it and voila free tow hook
